An eventful weekend

I've said it many times, and I'll say it again. I LOVE Waterton. Everything about it. This weekend was no exception. It was my roomate Diandra's 20th birthday on Saturday, so we figured why not celebrate in Waterton? It was a GREAT weekend. Here's the play by play:
Friday: Leave Edmonton around noon, enjoy the drive through Black Diamond (I've never gone that way...its beautiful!), and arrive around 6:00. Go for a nice little dingy ride out on the lake (thank you Scott and Courtney for your paddling services). A little supper at Pizza of Waterton, a little relaxing at the cabin, and a midnight drive to Red Rock.
Minutes before Diandra parted with her teenage years...
Not the most attractive picture. We tried. Multiple times.
End off the night with a few bear sightings and a dedication of Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody to bring in another decade of D's life. We're off to a good start.
Saturday: Roll out of bed around 8, grab some granola bars and fill up the water bottles, and head out for a hike. Raquel and I went up Galloway...it was amazing. Every time we drive up to Red Rock my mom points out the mountain where she could have sworn she was going to die as my dad dragged her up it. I now know where she's coming from...if you're not careful it could end up bad. But that's just like anything right?

The window at the top...praries on one side, mountains on the other.
Love it.

Blakiston. My next trek.

Raquel and Blakiston.

Next on Saturday's agenda? A little Cameron creek action. A bunch of our crew took the dingy for a little ride down the creek, so Raquel, Nima, Logan, Cody, and I stopped by Cody's cabin, grabbed a canoe, and headed down to the creek. At first we were going to put it in right at the falls, but once we got there we remembered that there was a bit of a dropoff, so we (being Logan and Cody) decided to put it in just past the dropoff...about 10 feet from a massive rock. All we had to do was paddle hard around the rock and we'd be fine, or so I was told.
As we're all piling into the canoe (yes, all 5 of us...Nima and I were side by side. One of many mistakes), everyone from the dingy ride came back. They just stood there on shore watching us, with big grins on their faces, and a couple random guys came over and pulled out their video camera. Until this point it had not occurred to me that this was a bad idea. To be honest, I would trust Logan and Cody with my life. But everyone else's reaction got me thinking...
Me: (turning to Cody) "Are you sure this is a good idea?"
Cody: (all smiles) "Yeah, it'll be fine"
I guess I'm easily convinced, because I didn't question him after that, and just hopped into the canoe.Well, here's where the story gets interesting. We push off shore, and within seconds get swept sideways (this picture may explain why...note the water pouring in from the side, and the fact that Cody is the only one still paddling)We end up pushed right up against the rock, water starts pouring in, and the canoe starts CRACKING! I literally watched the cracks go up the side of the canoe.
WHOSE IDEA WAS THIS?!
After a few seconds of cracking, we got swept right around and started going down the creek backwards. At this point I'm pretty sure we were all panicked. And rightfully so. The canoe capsized, throwing us all into the freezing creek.Cody goes to rescue the canoe, I'm trying to dodge the rocks that were destroying my legs, Nima is about dying from hypothermia, Raquel is gasping for breath she's so cold, and Logan is trying to avoid bashing his already-broken-toe against any more rocks. Meanwhile, the crew on shore takes off after a couple towels, a shirt, and some flip flops. The canoe is successfully recovered by Cody.Ben came to my rescue and pulled me out of the water...thank heaven! I think maybe I'll trust HIM with my life instead...Just a few of the battle wounds(You should have seen my legs the day after...I looked like a victim of domestic violence)Oh and the poor canoe...a nice long crack right along the front, and about 4 giant holes in the bottom...it was a rough ride.Best 16 seconds of summer!
End off the day with a shower, New York Cherry Cheesecake in a waffle cone, and a few rounds of "Who's the most?" at the cabin. Day two: success. Sunday: sleep in, go to church, have a victorious Rook game (girls versus guys...sorry Nima and Dane, if only you hadn't gotten set 3 times...Kwynne and I are just THAT good), dinner with Mama Leishman in Lethbridge, and a looong drive back to Etown.
Good company. Good times. Great weekend.
